Rita Landre – Fishnets & Flora

Another restored Rita Landre shot, this time posing on a stool in fishnets with a nice floral background.  Loving the star collar, nice touch!

Ewhurst Uncovered – Part 2

Anyone that visits the pages of this blog regularly will know I’m fascinated with not only the images of GHM and others from the 1960’s, but also the background behind them.  One of my recurring themes has always been ‘Ewhurst Manor’, how it was used, but more specifically what the place looked like and the layout.

My original article about Ewhurst uncovered is here and looks at the location then and now, I followed that up with the Caper article and now I’ve found another in depth (well more images!) article!

This was published in Hi-Life magazine Vol.5 No.9 (August 1964) and included this Ann Austin article … here.

It reuses a lot of the imagery for the Caper article, but adds further insight into the layout, general frontage of the house and who used it.

Three great shots of Ewhurst and one of Mrs Clifford tending her garden and a view of the patio on the side of the main house.

A page of colour shots including Jayne Tracey and the photographers Ken Williams and she pops up again here, Doris Weems!  It looks like again most of this imagery was used in the caper magazine, but does show a few different shots of Doris shooting Jayne on the front doorstep and inside.

Angela Jones also makes an appearance in this article, again being photographed by Ken Williams at the cottage door and gardens, along with another unknown model.

Finally, more GHM making his film on the driveway and front lawn of Ewhurst, before tea is taken with a couple of models including Vivienne Warren.  The narrative on this part makes me laugh as it refers to GHM as the ‘Head cameraman of the crew’.  All the images for this article were taken by Ed Alexander, but he doesn’t actually appear as far as I can see.

So all in all another good article about Ewhurst, with some new views of the house I’ve not seen before and better quality images of Doris Weems.  All of which adds more information around Ewhurst, it’s layout and how it was used.

The more I read and find out about Ewhurst, the more I wish the place still stood as I’d be there like a shot to have a look round!

So, any more articles about Ewhurst out there?  Do let me know if any more exist and I’m a member of the Ewhurst group on Yahoo, so know what’s on there :)

The full sized scans of the documents can be found … here

Enjoy!

Ann Austin – Up Pops Another One!

I found another of this set of Ann Austin disrobing from here bikini of the front lawn of Ewhurst!  I wonder how many there are of this set, not that I’m complaining as I love finding them.  The set so far can be seen … Here, enjoy!

Mary Deighan

A beautifully restored image of Mary Deighan, probably part of the collection that appeared in the 96 page pocket book ‘Kamera Backstage’ in 1959.

Gloria Lomax

I had the pleasure yesterday of being contacted via this site by none other than Gloria Lomax herself!  She contacted me via the comments on the ‘Who was Doris Weems‘ page.  She worked with Doris in the 1960’s and along with Annette Johnson had been photographed by Doris down in Wales amongst the sand dunes!

Having made further contact it transpires that she worked for GHM, Russell Gay and Ed Alexander to name a few during the 1960’s. She used to commute from Luton to London on a daily basis for work and used to often take the train along with Dawn Grayson.  What a wonderful titbit of information!

Gloria, many thanks for getting in touch via the site and I look forward to speaking to you again, especially around your time with Doris and Dawn.

Marie Provost – Knew I'd Seen Her Somewhere Before!

I knew I’d seen the model going by the name of Marie Provost before and I came across them today when looking for a specific Frankie Young image. These are from Kamera No.56 and prove it’s not Elaine Desmond.

So she now appears in this article and Kamera No.56 & 61, although it was probably only one photo shoot that produced the images for both Kamera issues and cover dates put both at 1964.

Kamera Calendar – 1967 (July – Dec)

Part two of the 1967 Harrison Marks/Kamera calendar all in high resolution.

July – Sandra Cassano

August – Teri Martine

September – Hazel Taylor (Ann Dixon)

October – Hyldagarde

November – Beryl Gilchrist

December – Margaret Nolan

My favourite must be Hyldagarde and her fabulous buxom bosom and for some reason Beryl Gilchrist in the hay ;)

Thanks to Simon for sending all of these wonderful scans for me to share.

Diving With June Palmer (Original)

I’ve been scouring the archive’s for inspiration for my 500th post, but nothing jumped out until I saw these again.  I decided the post should be JP related, but wanted something different, so when I saw these it was decided!

June Palmer in the late 1960’s on holiday diving!  One with her in scuba gear preparing to dive and then two of her doing some nude snorkeling (my favourites!)  Apart from her great bum, the two underwater shots are fantastic and love the bubbles surrounding her on the last shot.  I’ve done very little to these shots apart from some minor colour adjustments and removing the odd blemish, but the quality on the underwater shots was amazing!

These were probably taken by Arthur Howell on holiday and again the best guess is Corsica as it seems to be a favourite holiday location.

So this was my 500th post since March when I started this blog, Wow! Thanks must go to all the contributors who have helped with the quality of this blog and the fantastic original photo’s that have been sent to me, including John W who provided the 3 images above and allowing me to share them!
